My Work in the exhibition #FREETHENIPPLE
March Thursday 12 – Friday 20
Opening Drinks Reception: Thursday 12 // 6pm
A curatorial exercise in the gendered exhibition space and a critique of the white cube and its patriarchal histories.
The history of the exhibition space and that of art is one imbued with constructs of male gender and male histories of art making and display. In many regards the art world is one of male aesthetics, languages and spaces.
Held in the Link Galllery of Manchester School of Art, a group of ten artist aim to challenge or is form antagonism to the white cube and its perceived ‘masculinity’ of the contemporary exhibition space. In that certain conventions surrounding gender, the art space and of contemporary art will be examined under feminist and alternative interpretation of gender and gender expression - be of the self or the constructed environment.
Through considered collaboration between the practices of art and design, Femme approaches its themes in a manner of experimentation and play. In that a space of investigation and questioning will be encouraged in an effort to incite discourse and divergent thought.
